Kelley Paul, Senator Rand Paul’s wife, talks about her new children’s books

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and his wife, Kelley Paul, have been enjoying time with their new grandson.
Kelley says 18-month-old Pierce loves books. Her daughter-in-law told her with the 250th Birthday of America coming up, she wished there were more patriotic board books for babies and toddlers.
“That night over dinner, we were playing around with names, and we came up with Good Night, Little American and she’s like, ‘I love it,’” Kelley said.
She says the illustrations in the books are very dreamlike and the writing has lyrical poems.
Kelley, who was an English major in college, also wrote a book called Good Night, Young American for children four through eight years old.
The star of the book is a little boy.
“That night when he falls asleep, he dreams of American Revolutionary History. So, it starts out on the Mayflower, he’s a pilgrim, a colonist. He makes friends with great Revolutionary history heroes, like Sam Adams, and he’s at the Boston Tea Party, and makes friends with Paul Revere and goes on the midnight ride,” Kelley said.
These are not the first books Kelley has written, but they are the first children’s books.

“I hope these books will give parents an opportunity to really talk with their kids about some of the great heroic moments of our revolution, right before America’s 250th in a month,” she said. “I hope it will give people a way to talk to their kids about it and give kids a real understanding of what we’re actually celebrating.”
The books can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other bookstores.
