Sens.JonOssoff(D–Ga.)andJohnKennedy(R–La.)introducedlegislationWednesday—theFamilyNotificationofDeath,Injury,orIllnessinCustodyAct—thatwouldrequiretheJusticeDepartmenttoissueguidancetotheBOPforpromptlynotifyingfamiliesofindividualsincustodywhobecomeseriouslyill,sufferlife-threateninginjuries,ordie.TheJusticeDepartmentwouldalsodistributethosepoliciesasamodelforstateandlocallockupstofollow.
