PresidentDonaldTrump’spreferentialtreatmenttowardfossilfuelshasbackfiredandleftmanyAmericanenergyproducersanxiousaboutthefutureoftheindustry.Thepresidentdoesn’tseemtocare.  OnTuesday,Trumpdoubleddownonhisfossilfuelenergyagendawithanexecutiveordertobolster“America’sBeautifulCleanCoalIndustry.”Theedictlabelscoalas“costeffective”and“criticaltomeetingtheriseinelectricitydemand”anddirectsfederalagenciestoidentifyandrescindfederalregulationsandprogramsthat“seektotransitiontheNationawayfromcoalproductionandelectricitygeneration.”  CoalwasoncethedominantenergysourceintheU.S.,makingupmorethan50percentofthenation’selectricitygenerationin2005.Sincethen,coalusehassteadilydeclined,andin2023,itgeneratedonly16percentofAmerica’selectricity.  Coal’sdeclinewasnotcausedbyafederalplottotransitionawayfromcoal,likeTrumpthinks,butratherbymarketsandi
