WASHINGTON (TNND) — For Homeland Security Committee Chairman Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., getting to the bottom of how the Coronavirus started has been a top priority for years.
Fauci was testifying before the committee and was asked to answer questions about the government’s response to the pandemic. (TNND)
During a May 2021 hearing, Senator Paul asked Dr. Anthony Fauci, “Will you, in front of this group, categorically say that COVID-19 could not have occurred through serial passage in a laboratory?”
Fauci was testifying before the committee and was asked to answer questions about the government’s response to the pandemic.
Years later, in July 2025, Sen. Paul continued to assert that more answers were needed.
“The CIA, the FBI and the DOE all say with varying degrees of confidence that they fear that Covid 19 could have started as a lab leak.”
Now, Paul has released a new batch of documents, including a timeline of events, showing Dr. Anthony Fauci’s ties to the intelligence community date back to 2003.
As head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Fauci had gained the trust of top national security officials and seemed to be in their inner circle for years, and utilized that relationship to assist with the messaging of how COVID started.
Documents show that he and other top doctors backed a research paper published in the Journal Nature in March 2020 called “The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2.”
The research suggested, “It is improbable that SARS-CoV-2 emerged through laboratory manipulation.”
Instead, they pushed the natural origins or “Zoonotic theory,” arguing it started in an animal.
This was a sharp contrast with a whistleblower report, also released, that stated,
“SARS-CoV-2 is an American-created recombinant bat vaccine, or its precursor virus. It was created by an EcoHealth Alliance program at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).”
CIA Senior Operations Officer James Erdman was a whistleblower subpoenaed to testify last month before the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
“Dr. Fauci influenced the analytical process and findings by leveraging his position to ensure the IC consulted with a conflicted list of curated, subject matter experts, public health officials and scientists,” he said.
“Intentional or not, the IC’s actions resulted in a cover-up, wasted resources, and a failure to properly inform policymakers.”
Chairman Paul has once again asked Dr. Anthony Fauci to appear for a transcribed interview later this monthbut the ranking Democrat on the committee, Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., says democrats were not invited or even notified to be present, which he says will severely undermine the credibility of the investigation.
